Homesake — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 November 2026
Homesake helps you keep track of the appliances and maintenance in your home. This policy explains what it stores, where that goes, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impressive. The developer is Tend Technologies.
The short version
Homesake stores what you put into it. It works entirely on your phone unless you sign in, at which point your data also syncs to your own private area of our Firebase project so you can reach it from another device. Photos you scan are sent through Homesake's own server to Anthropic's Claude API to be read. Nothing is sold and nothing is shared for advertising. The app records which features are used (never what you enter), so we can tell what to improve; you can turn this off in Settings. If the app crashes, a crash report is sent so the bug can be fixed.
What is stored
- What you enter — appliances and their brand, model, serial number, purchase date, price paid, location and notes; maintenance tasks and their history; improvement ideas; and your settings.
- Photos you take or choose — data plates and receipts.
- Documents you attach — warranties, manuals and receipts.
- Account details, only if you sign in — with Google, your name, email address, profile photo and a Google account identifier; with email, your email address (the password is held by Firebase Authentication, never by us).
- An anonymous identifier, created when the app first runs, used to count AI scans against a monthly allowance. It contains nothing personal and is not linked to you unless you sign in.
- Subscription status, only if you subscribe to Homesake Pro — whether a subscription is active, which plan, and when the current period ends, plus a purchase token (a code from Google Play that identifies the subscription), kept on our server and linked to your account so the subscription can be checked. Homesake never sees your payment card or billing details.
- Ideas and votes, only if you use Settings → Ideas & requests while signed in — the idea you post (title and details) and which ideas you voted for. Ideas are shown to everyone who uses Homesake, without your name; who voted for what is visible only to you. Deleting your account removes your votes and unlinks your ideas from your account.
- Usage data — which features are used and whether they worked: for example that a scan succeeded or failed, that a task was ticked off, that the Pro screen was opened or a plan was chosen, and when the app is opened. Each event carries a random install identifier (your account identifier once you sign in), the app version, and your phone model and Android version. It never includes what you typed or scanned — no addresses, serial or model numbers, notes, photos, documents or email address — and never your advertising ID. Turn it off any time in Settings → Share usage data.
- Crash reports, only when the app crashes — the error, the screen it happened on, your phone model and Android version, and an installation identifier. They contain none of your records or photos.
Homesake does not collect your location, your contacts, your other apps, or anything you have not deliberately given it.
Where it goes
- Your phone, always and first. Everything is written to the device before anything else happens, so the app works without a connection.
- Google Firebase, if you sign in — Firestore for your records and Cloud Storage for your documents, both under an area only your account can read or write.
- Anthropic's Claude API, when you use a scanning or lookup feature — the photo, or the brand and model you typed, goes to Homesake's server (Google Cloud Functions in our Firebase project), which sends it to Anthropic to be read and returns the result to your phone. For model lookups and manual searches, Claude may search the web using the brand and model. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models; see Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Google Play, if you subscribe to Homesake Pro — the purchase, payment, free trial, renewal and cancellation are all handled by Google Play under Google's terms, not by Homesake. Homesake's server asks Google Play whether a subscription is active, using the purchase token, and stores the answer (status, plan and end date) so paid features unlock on your devices. To cancel, use Google Play → Payments & subscriptions.
- Firebase Crashlytics, if the app crashes — the crash report described above goes to Google so the bug can be found and fixed.
- PostHog, unless you turn usage data off — the usage events described above go to PostHog (posthog.com), our product analytics provider, hosted in the United States. They are used only to understand how Homesake is used and are kept for up to 12 months.
- Loops, if you create an account — your email address goes to Loops (loops.so), which sends Homesake's welcome and tips emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops them for good.
- Manufacturer websites, when you ask Homesake to find a manual — it fetches the file directly from wherever it is published, so that site sees an ordinary web request.
Text recognition on data plates runs on your phone using Google ML Kit. That step sends nothing anywhere, and often means a scan completes without any photo leaving the device at all.
This website
- Page views. tendtech.app/homesake counts anonymous page views and a few button clicks (for example "Get it on Google Play") with PostHog, hosted in the US. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, does not record sessions, and is switched off if your browser sends Do Not Track.
- iPhone waitlist. If you join the waitlist, your email address is stored with Loops (loops.so), our email provider, and used only to tell you when Homesake for iPhone is available. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or write to us and we'll remove you.
What is never done
- No advertising, and no data shared with advertisers.
- No selling of data to anyone, for any purpose.
- No advertising ID, cross-app tracking or session recording.
- No use of your content to train AI models.
Permissions
- Internet — syncing, scanning and fetching manuals.
- Notifications — maintenance reminders. Asked for when you first turn reminders on, not at first launch, and declining keeps everything else working.
- Run at startup — reminders are rebuilt after a restart, because Android discards scheduled alarms when a phone reboots.
Photographs are taken through your phone's own camera app, so Homesake never holds camera permission itself.
How long it is kept
Your data stays until you delete it. Signing out deliberately leaves everything on your phone — signing out is not a request to lose your records, and treating it as one is how people lose things they cannot get back.
Deleting your data
- A single item — delete the appliance, task or document in the app. It goes from the phone and from your synced copy.
- Everything on the phone — uninstall, or clear the app's storage in Android settings.
- Your account and everything synced to it — in the app, open Settings → Delete account and data and confirm. This immediately deletes your synced records, uploaded documents, scan history, subscription status and sign-in account from our servers, and clears the app's data from your phone. Usage events, which hold nothing you entered, expire on their own within 12 months; email us to have them deleted sooner. It cannot be undone. Without an account, the same row reads “Delete all data on this phone”. You can still ask by email instead: write to support@tendtech.app from the address you signed in with, and your records, documents and account are deleted within 30 days and confirmed by reply.
Children
Homesake is not directed at children under 13 and is not designed for their use.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or where it goes, the updated version will appear here with a new date, and material changes will be noted in the app.
